Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter

Horrifying! - D. Ricci -
We ordered 2 of these. We have 2 of the bigger model and had no problems with them. When we opened these up, the first box we opened had a makeshift weapon taped to the inside of the box. It was made from the blade of a box cutter and the "handle" was made from packing tape. We opened the second box and although there was nothing strange inside this box, the purifier simply didn't work. We noticed that both boxes were "Inspected by #24."

We have 3 small children who, like all children, love to play with cardboard boxes. We are horrified by the thought of us not noticing the weapon taped to the box and having one of our sons find it instead. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about it.

We attempted to contact Honeywell but no one answered their 800 number. We sent them email but have yet to hear back from them.

Absolutely horrifying.
Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter Honeywell: HHT-011 Honeywell Permanent HEPA-Type Tabletop Air Purifier is 99% efficient at reducing airborne particles such as dust, tobacco smoke, pollen, cat dander & mold spores from the air that passes through the filter. read more

Chicken on the Grill - Some Tips

Enjoy a summer (or winter if you are real keen) grill. Cook up some chicken in a way to impress your guests. If cooking up marinated chicken, cook up some vegetables as a complement. Its fun to try different foods.

The most challenging thing with cooking chicken is to make sure that it is cooked right through, with a nice crispy outside. Uncooked chicken can harbor some real nasties.

There are many ways to prepare the chicken, but usually the chicken is marinated for at least two hours beforehand. The types of marinade vary from Asian styles to Indian styles and other styles as well. One of my favorites is satay chicken and the marinade recipe and the satay sauce recipe are shown below. Usually, I prefer to cook boned chicken thighs on the grill, rather than legs or wings. There is no problem cooking these pieces, only a personal preference.

Marinade for the satay chicken (for 600gm of chicken). Place this mixture with the strips of chicken that will be suitable for skewers into a sealed plastic bag into the refrigerator for up to five hours.

Two Tablespoons of thai chilli sauce

One tablespon of soy sauce

Two teaspoons of crushed garlic (fresh is best)

Two teaspoons of crushed ginger

Two tablespoons lemon juice (or lime juice)

Satay Sauce for basting. Basting is best done with a silicone basting brush (as it is heat resistant, and real easy to clean)

300 g of peanut butter (most of a small jar)

One 400 ml (or so) can of coconut milk

Two tablespoons of sweet chilli sauce (or more if a sharper taste is desired)

Two tablespoons of oyster sauce

Add sugar, if a sweeter taste is desired

A medium hot (oiled) grill will do the trick, if the chicken is turned every five to ten minutes, basting regularly depending how thick the chicken is. The process is much the same if the chicken is whole or on skewers, and allow about thirty minutes to cook the chicken thoroughly. Check the chicken by cutting the thickest piece to see if the flesh is all white (There should be no hint of red)

Serve hot with vegetables of choice, and add the sauce onto the chicken if there is any left!

A great way to soak up a lazy afternoon or evening with friends.

Are Ionizers Really the Quick Fix to All Your Allergy Problems?

In a quick answer, yes! According to studies done by scientists, over 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. With most people allergies are simply "seasonal" and they come and go as the seasons come and go. Their biggest problem is usually in the summer time when pollen is at an all time high. But a number of people experience chronic, year round allergies.

People with seasonal allergies often have symptoms such as itchy, runny nose, congestion, and sneezing. However, symptoms of non-seasonal allergies include: coughing, watery eyes, allergic conjunctivitis, and post nasal drip. It doesn't matter if you're a seasonal or non seasonal person, allergies are bothersome either way. Most of the air purifiers sold on the market today have built in independent ionizers that help in catching airborne particles.

When the air purifiers ionizer is turned on, a certain amount of voltage is applied to a series of built in "needles", which creates the electrons and discharges them into the atmosphere. When the electrons attack to the molecules, ions are formed.

Next, negative ions are dispersed into the room where you have the purifier placed, and attach themselves to dust particles, pollen, smoke and dander once they do this, they then form larger particles, which can then be easily trapped by your air filter. These particles can also fall to the floor to be vacuumed up later on. Negative ions are always present in our environment, wherever the air is agitated, especially around waterfalls, ocean surf, rivers and mountains. Positive ions are also present around us, in carpets, draperies and allergens in our home.

There are several different Ionizers (ionic) purifiers you can take a look at including:

Ionic Air Purifier Cleaner
Sharper Image Ionic Breeze
Surround Air Ionic Purifier
Ionic GP Air with Ozone + Hybrid UV Germicidal
Oreck XL Signature Series Professional Air Purifier

You can visit the following websites to find out more information as well as history, prices and specs:

Wikipedia
Amazon
eBay
Allergy Buyers Club

One of the things I like most about the Ionizer, is even though the "design" is completely scientific the price is definitely NOT out of this world. These products are very affordable, selling on eBay for as little as $10 on up to $150. Personally, I wouldn't mind spending $150 on something that would make my life better, and easier to live on a day to day basis, would you? It would also be a good idea for you to check out reviews online. These reviews range from all sorts of ionizer brands, prices and "pluses" of the product!

T-fal Signature Non-Stick 12-piece Cookware Set, Blue

T-fal Signature Non-Stick 12-piece Cookware Set, Blue Ok, but not great - C. S. Smith -
When used on a radiant stove top, heat does not transfer well. Have an older set of T-fal pans that work much better...so be warned.

My T-fal pots and pans set is beautiful, and a great value. I chose the blue to brighten my kitchen but the color in the description is misleading. They are a medium blue-gray- much darker than they look in the picture. T-fal: C137SC64 T-Fal Signature Non-Stick cookware is constructed of heavy guage aluminum and features a patterned nonstick interior that is exceptionally durable, scratch-resistant, and safe with metal utensils. The exterior coating is non-stick and blue in color and allows for carefree cleaning in the dishwasher. The base of the pan is warp-resistant and provides even heat distribution. An ergonomically designed handle stays cool on the stovetop and is riveted for durability. T-Fal Signature Non-stick cookware is oven safe to 350 degrees F, dishwasher safe, and carries a limited lifetime warranty.
